HISTORY Cheaters never prosper -- that's the old mantra of those who suffer at their hands. As professional poker slowly gave way to duel monsters as the premier card game ruling the tables, Samuel "Axe" Campbell turned his analytical approach to this new game and started strong - but the ruthless competition drove many to skirt the rules, mathematics and strategy no match for blatant rule violations and bribery. Even years down the road when the cheaters finally got careless and their dirty secrets were laid bare, Old Man Campbell was never quite was able to accept the vindication that his losses were due to unfair play and not a flaw in his theory, the man walked away from the game he used to make his living. He took on odd jobs around Miami before marrying and settling down with a bakery, forever abandoning the game he once loved so much. It took several years for young Michael to pick up that same game and understand exactly how his father had come to the conclusions he did about such things like "ratios" and "card advantage", and even when he finally understood how the deck worked, new cards had rendered the original build obsolete. After several crushing defeats to the decrepit relic of an age gone by, it was Michael's mother, an old battleaxe of a woman, who set her son straight. He didn't need to use his father's deck, she told him - he needed to use his tactics. And while she herself wasn't able to follow the game like Michael was, she could see there was a spark there - he would make something of himself. In the past two years, that pep-talk has been the prime reason Michael Campbell has broken through the ranks to be one of the hottest young guns getting an invite to Domino City. | ||||||||
